Bristol

Volunteers needed for Bristol primary schools

Could you give a half day a week to help children in a Bristol Primary School with their reading? Retired and senior volunteers are required for this rewarding programme. Primary schools all over Bristol have children who need additional help to improve their reading skills. At the moment one in every ten Bristol children leaves primary school for secondary school with very low reading ability or unable to read. This is a major difficulty for the individual child; also for society at large. As a volunteer you would be insured by RSVP. You would also receive training arranged by Bristol City Council. Your commitment would be a half day a week during term-time. To find out more and to volunteer please e-mail the Bristol Area Organiser, Ian Tennant, at ianltennant@aol.com.
